Semester Abroad Exemption

In general, all IIS students are obliged to conduct a stay abroad during the course of their studies. However, certain exemptions apply to international students. Please see here for more details.

If you want to be exempted due to unforeseeable circumstances, you can apply for semester abroad exemption via the “IIS Self Service”. To obtain a semester abroad exemption, you need to submit all of the following documents:

  • Enrolment Certificate (“Immatrikulationsbescheinigung”)
  • Copy of your application for the semester abroad that states that you applied for positions in at least two countries
  • (Conditional) admission letter or equivalent document from the guest university / partner company abroad

Please use the form below to request semester abroad exemption. We will inform you via email within four weeks if your request for exemption from the obligation to go abroad is approved, and if so, we will also send a respective document to the examination office.
